This was one bad commute home! I was stranded at Yonge and Bloor for 3 hours after the Yonge Subway Line was shut down due to falling electrical cables.
46 meters of electrical cable fell from the walls of a subway tunnel wall near Eglinton station yesterday afternoon, paralyzing the city’s public transit system just as rush hour began.
The cables came crashing down around 4:30 p.m. stranding thousands of commuters during the evening rush. The TTC deployed a fleet of shuttle buses after trains on the busy Yonge line were rerouted to bypass the affected section of track. But the buses couldn’t handle the crowds that spilled out from the subway stations, desperate to make it home.
Footage was capture with my Samsung R610 camera phone.
